 Susan Ryan-Loback holds a cross made out of the steel from the World Trade Center. Susan volunteered with her husband, Thomas Loback, at ground zero for months, providing support to the search, rescue and recovery efforts. Thomas passed away this year from 9/11 certified pancreatic cancer.  Sculptor Yuri Gerasimov’s statue of Vladmir Lenin lay on the roof top of 178 Norfolk St. after being removed from the Red Square residential building roof top on Houston Street. The statue stood on the roof top of Red Square since 1989 and had become a symbol of the Lower East Side. With the change of the Red Square residential building ownership the statue will find a new home on top of a building across the street from its original home.

The school uses group dialogue called circles and student driven dialogue to resolve conflicts.
