Two young boys play a game of soccer in an area known to be littered with used syringes from drug consumers at the porto são bento train station in Porto, Portugal. Daily the SAOM street team walk the paths and areas used by drug users to remove used syringes to reduce injury and the spread of diseases such as HIV and Hepatitis. The team also delivers water, a methadone cocktail, medication and supplies that includes: two syringes, drug paraphernalia, a condom, citric acid, distilled water and sanitation wipes to drug users with the goal of minimizing risk, providing support, and developing a path to social reintegration.
