19-year-old, Alex in custody at an ICE office building in Manhattan, New York September 12, 2017.
Alex was suspended from Huntington High School in Long Island, New York for doodling Horns from the blue devil, the school's mascot and 504, the country code for his native country Honduras in his school notebooks. His drawings were misinterpreted as MS13 gang signs, reported to ICE, which led to a 13 month detainment, and deportation to Honduras. Alex is stuck in Honduras separated from his friends and his nuclear family who remain in the U.S.
